Managing Micro-mobility: Charlotte’s Scooter Solution

Charlotte’s Shared Mobility Program was created to manage the influx of scooters at the curb while providing a low-cost, convenient transportation solution for citizens. Like many cities nationwide, after scooters were dropped into the city with no approval, Charlotte issued a cease & desist order. However, the city quickly realized that instead of stalling innovation and access to a convenient transportation option, it could take a more collaborative approach to build a relationship between the city and micro-mobility vendors. On May 21, 2018 the Shared Mobility Program piloted and is viewed across the country as a leading example of public-private partnership and innovation in city government.
