Passport moving to uptown Charlotte to support growth
Mobile payments leader adds 20,000 square feet with new office in uptown Charlotte
Charlotte, NC (September 25, 2017) — Charlotte-based mobile payment technology company, Passport, has announced its plans to move to a new office space in uptown Charlotte. The company is currently leasing 8,000 square feet at the historic Textile Mill Supply Company building in South End and plans to move into the top two floors of First Citizens Bank Plaza at the intersection of Tryon Street and 4th Street.
“We’re seeing tremendous growth as a company,” explained Bob Youakim, CEO at Passport. “As we are investing in transforming our products, improving interactions, and refreshing our brand, we are also adding a wide variety of talent to our team, and this new space will help inspire innovative thinking and collaboration.”
Passport is one of Charlotte’s fastest growing private companies. The company reported 475.5% revenue growth between 2013 to 2015 and was recognized as the top company on Charlotte Business Journal’s “Fast 50” list last year. The company has sustained this momentum through acquisitions and international expansion in the past year.
“We love our current space, but we’re growing out of it,” said Kate Haffey, vice president of people operations at Passport. “Moving to our new, modern office in the heart of Charlotte will help us accommodate all of the new Passporters that we are hiring onto our team and also inspire even more creativity and productivity.”
The new Passport office will maintain much of the company’s warm and inviting feel from its current South End space, while also incorporating new elements of the clients and customers that Passport serves. It will feature Charlotte cityscape views and natural light, including a large outdoor patio where team members can work or entertain clients. “We wanted a space that retained key elements of our culture and business, while still staying close to Charlotte’s urban core,” said Haffey. “Uptown Charlotte is the best place to do that, where we are at the center of the many exciting things happening in this great city.”
Passport currently has 85 employees and has approximately 15 new job openings posted to its careers page. Passport is expected to move to its 28,000 square feet uptown headquarters at 128 S. Tryon Street in December 2017. The company partnered with architecture firm Perkins+Will and Barringer Construction. Passport is represented by JLL’s, Chris Schaaf and Bryan White, and supported by a JLL project team made up of Alicia Bickett and Rachel Johnson.
