City of Cambridge Triples PassportParking® App Availability Across On-Street and Off-Street Parking

Mobile parking app makes paying for parking easier

Cambridge, MA (September 25, 2017) – The ability to pay for parking with a smartphone is now becoming available at an additional 1,100 parking spaces across the City of Cambridge, focused on the vibrant Central Square business district.  At the end of 2016, the city successfully launched PassportParking?, a mobile application powered by Passport, the global leader in mobile payments for parking and transit.  Today, the city has expanded the availability of the app to additional locations to make parking easier.

Drivers in the City of Cambridge can download the app and pay for parking on-the-go without having to worry about digging for coins.  App users can also receive alerts and notifications about their parking sessions, extend their sessions remotely and view all parking history right from the convenience of their phones.

“Passport has been a great partner to our city and has helped us offer an innovative way of paying for parking,” said Joseph Barr, Cambridge’s director of traffic, parking & transportation department. “Cambridge visitors and residents adopted the mobile pay app when we first launched it at Harvard Square and we are excited to bring that same capability to more locations across our city. We have seen a 60% increase in mobile transactions since the first month of launching the app and we look forward to seeing even more people use it moving forward.”

In addition to Cambridge, Passport’s technology is available in Salem, Brookline, Wellesley and Newton. Passport also powers the ParkBoston mobile pay app for the City of Boston. The ParkBoston app can also be used in the City of Cambridge as indicated by signs.

“The expansion of mobile pay for parking within the City of Cambridge is an important milestone for Passport,” said Chris Watt, client success executive at Passport.  “We are proud to extend our operations across the state of Massachusetts and make parking for drivers easier in Cambridge.”

The PassportParking app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at
