The City of Surrey Rings in New Year with New Passport Canada App

Monday, January 18, 2016 – Surrey, British Columbia

The City of Surrey is premiering a new, more user-friendly mobile option for parking payments. The City is launching Passport Canada, powered by Passport, North America’s leading mobile payments provider for parking and transit. Passport Canada is replacing the City’s previous mobile payment provider to give parkers a quicker, easier app experience.

Passport Canada will be available in both on and off-street Surrey parking locations. Specifically, at the following locations: NCH Parkade, Healthy Communities, Central City Library, North Surrey Rec. Ctr, SFU Lot B, and SFU Lot C. These locations will have Passport Canada signage directing users to download the app.

With Passport Canada, users can pay for their parking session directly from their smartphone, track their remaining time, and extend their parking (up to the allotted maximum time). Users will receive a notification alerting them 15 minutes prior to the end of their session. Merchant validation will also be available through the app at participating Surrey merchant locations.

“We’re pleased to be working with the Passport team to launch this new mobile pay solution,” said Andrew Haye, Parking Services Coordinator. “We know that Passport Canada is an app that our residents and visitors will get excited about using.”

“This is an especially exciting launch for our team because of the introduction of Passport Canada,” said Nathan Berry, VP of Sales at Passport. “After launching our Passport app and numerous private label applications across Canada, we’re proud to bring our Passport Canada mobile pay solution to the City of Surrey and look forward to debuting the app to their parkers.”

Users can take advantage of the Passport Canada app in the beginning of 2016. The Passport Canada app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at ppprkca.com. Users will not pay an additional fee to park with the app, since the City of Surrey will cover this cost for users of the system. Furthermore, first time users can get a $2 discount code for their first session!

Passport is the leading provider of mobile payments for parking and transit, and has deployed mobile payment services in large cities such as Toronto, Chicago, Boston, and Salt Lake City. Passport developed the Green P app, Toronto’s mobile parking payment application and ParkVictoria, Victoria’s mobile parking payment application. Passport is also available in the City of Timmins and in other private parking locations in the Canada area.
