Oak Park to offer overnight parking passes via mobile app

Drivers hoping to reserve an overnight parking pass in Oak Park can do so by using their smartphone or tablet.

In addition to paying at any parking meter or pay-by-space lot in the village, residents and visitors can also use the Passport Parking app to reserve a spot. The app is available to both Apple and Android devices.

Users can also reserve passes online at www.oak-park.us/parkingpass or by calling 708-716-0716 and following the automated phone system prompts.

Car owners can request up to 10 temporary, overnight on-street parking passes per-car, per-month. The first three passes are free, while an additional seven passes can be purchased for $7 each.

As with current automated systems in parking lots and parking meters, users requesting overnight passes are required to enter a zone number regardless of whether they are requesting an overnight pass via the app, online or by phone.

For an overnight pass, users will need to enter “Zone 206,” which encompasses all locations where on-street overnight parking passes are allowed.

Those requesting an overnight pass must be sure to check regulatory signs and not park in a restricted area, including main streets. A map of restricted areas is available at www.oak-park.us/zone206.

To ease the transition of those who relied on the old telephone system to get a pass, callers will still be able to reach a village operator from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. through Jan. 30. Operators will also be available to explain the new system and answer questions.

Residents who do not have access to a smartphone or internet connection can visit the parking and mobility services department at Village Hall, 123 Madison St., or call 708-358-7275 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

More information is available at www.oak-park.us/parking.
