Passport and local community raise $45,000 for Project Scientist
At Passport, we love a little friendly competition. Add fundraising for a charity into the mix and our game faces are on!
For the past few years, Passport has been supporting Project Scientist, a non-profit organization serving girls ages 4-12 with interests and passions in STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics). After hosting expedition days at our Charlotte office for more than 100 girls, Passport was inspired to continue the partnership.
This April, Passport partnered with Project Scientist to host Connect for Charity, the organization’s first annual giant Connect Four tournament, with all proceeds benefiting Project Scientist. Over 200 attendees gathered for action-packed Connect Four rounds, lunch, a silent auction, and a raffle, all of which were supported by generous sponsors and donations.
Thirty teams of four went head-to-head in some intense rounds of the classic game. Teams came dressed in costume, battled for a “bye” round in a dance-off, and enjoyed some friendly competition. However, this wasn’t your standard game of giant Connect Four– Passport took it to the next level with mulligans. Players could purchase these fun extras to block moves, take double turns, and remove last-played coins. All of the mulligan proceeds went to Project Scientist– it was a win-win. Passport and teams from all over the Charlotte area participated, but only one rose to the very top: PwC!
The tournament was full of excitement and the raffle and auction items were impressive, but the best part of it all? Connect for Charity raised $45,000 for Project Scientist! All of the proceeds will help provide hands-on opportunities for future scientists from low-income families and will allow them to participate in Project Scientist’s year-round programming.
“Passport is proud to support Project Scientist as they educate girls about the importance of STEM,” Khristian Gutierrez, Chief Revenue Officer at Passport said. “We see this as a long-term investment in the future of our community and look forward to the day that Project Scientist alumni can bring their talents to the Passport team.”
