Forget about remembering to bring quarters to feed the parking meters in Newton: Starting this month, meters across the city can be paid by phone with an app. PassportParking, which started in Newton Centre on June 15, is now available in every village, although a small number of meters still need the necessary zone stickers that designate various parking rates. Once downloaded and set up, the PassportParking app allows for cashless online payment, and also allows time to be added to a meter from anywhere if necessary. A similar system is used in Boston. More information and detailed instructions on setting up the app are available on the city’s website.
