Asbury Park Partners with Passport to Launch Mobile App
City will introduce new mobile pay for parking app for improved user experience
Asbury Park, NJ – Parking just got easier for the City of Asbury Park. The City will officially launch a new mobile payment solution on May 26th, 2017 at all metered parking spaces. Asbury Park residents, visitors, and commuters will be able to pay for parking using the new “Asbury PARK” app, developed by Passport, North America’s leading mobile payment provider for parking and transit.
With “Asbury PARK”, users can pay for their parking, keep track of remaining time, and even extend their parking session remotely. While parkers can currently pay for parking with their mobile phones, the city is making the switch to its own custom application in order to provide a more user-friendly experience for its residents and visitors at a lower cost. The new app will provide parkers with the flexibility to either pay for individual parking sessions with their debit/credit card or load funds onto a digital wallet, which gives the city the ability to add discounts towards parking sessions.
To get started, users will need to download the app and create an account with their smartphone device. With the previous parking app, parkers were required to identify a zone as well as their space number. With the new “Asbury PARK” app, once parked, users will simply enter their space number located on the street, length of stay, and confirm their payment information. Parking enforcement officials can view the parking sessions on their handheld device and will know which spaces are paid for.
“Providing our parkers with the ability to handle their parking experience through their smartphone gives them the convenience they want,” said Michael Manzella, the City’s Transportation Manager. “From an operational standpoint, we now have the ability gain more insight to parking behavior that wasn’t possible before, as well as continue to give drivers the best experience as possible. From the user’s perspective, they will be able to easily extend time on their parking sessions without having to feed the meter and at no additional transaction cost. With Passport building us a custom app, we have a great opportunity to positively re-brand parking in the City of Asbury Park.”

The “Asbury PARK” app will be free to download on May 26th through the App Store and Google Play store.
