Meet Mike Hulthen. Hulthen is Passport’s Vice President of Engineering. With over 30+ years of development experience, Hulthen has built software that’s sustainable, ran development teams in a variety of industries and areas, including Silicon Valley, where he was the CEO of PenRight! and most recently was Chief Technology Officer at Core Consulting Group. Get to know Hulthen’s background, what he’s most passionate about, and why he chose to work at Passport:

Q: Can you tell me about your background?

Mike: I have a degree in computer science and about 3 years toward electrical engineering. In the beginning of my career, I started out as a developer and ended up taking a job in the summer doing software at a startup company. I kept growing my career through the development cycles and as a result, started leading development and business teams.

Q: What’s your role at Passport?

M: As the VP of Engineering, I’ll be supporting Passport’s development team. Like any company that’s going through different growth cycles, you have to determine how to create products that are sustainable. One of my main priorities is ‘process without bureaucracy’ – scaling operations efficiently through periods of growth.

Q: Why are you passionate about what you do?

M: I love to build great products. I’ve built mobile device management products and connected consumer products, which interacts consumers with their smartphones. Before that, I did a lot of retail systems. I worked with a few small companies, as well. One was a startup company in Silicon Valley.

Q: Why did you choose to work at Passport?

M: I was looking for a fun, unique, and challenging organization. I knew I would have the opportunity to do some great work at Passport and it was a really great fit for me.

I was immediately attracted to the company’s environment, but more importantly, the innovative software the team is developing each day.
